Does anyone out there have any experience with the New Process NP 540. It looks just like an NP435. The Ford version I found was out of a 78 Ford F800 with a Gas engine. It has the same Bell Housing pattern as the other Ford 4 speeds, and has the 1 3/8" 10 spline input shaft as the Big Block Top Loader 4 speeds. 6 to 1 Granny gear but still 1 to 1 in 5th, which will give a lot of gear choice.

Researching, it sounds like the 540 has (some? all?) straight-cut gears, and noise is a serious concern. But the 7.41 low & 7.85 reverse is pretty impressive.

They are only straight cut in Granny low and reverse just like all the rest of the big granny 4 speeds. There is some bad information on the internet posted by people that have never looked inside of one. Gears 2-5 are all helical cut gears with Syncros.

You wouldn't happen to have some 73-80 F600 fenders and grill do you?

There's a set down in Perkasie but not a ton better than mine. They used to be everywhere. Not so much nowadays. The 70s were just yesterday right?

Now there’s a town I haven’t thought of since college. I dated a girl from there for a little bit.

    Carry on.

I went and looked at the tranny today. It turned out to be a NP445 full synchro 4 speed with a 4.85-1 synchro low gear. the case looks just like a NP435 but maybe 1" longer. I passed on it but then he offered me a Ford NP435 in nice shape with the shifter for $100.00. Needless to say, it followed me home.
