Seems I finally got the rear main seal right but still got a small puddle of oil on the floor while running the cam break-in.

    1980 Buick 231.

I’m not at all sure the dipstick tube is original but it seems to read correctly.

There is a taped part to the tube that is pretty much completely inside the engine. Sticks into the engine past the tube inlet maybe an inch.

It’s not a tight fit into the block but not sloppy either. I used a good bit of RTV on the tube where it enters and I think all the oil is coming out the top end.

    What do y’all think?

Make sure the crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is functional.

I’m sure the valve works just not positive I have it plumbed to a good vacuum. I’ll get a good picture.

Is the rear of the intake a good vacuum?

There’s a plug on top of the #6 intake. Would that be a good spot?

can you drill and tap a hole there

Isn't the pcv hose supposed to be connected to the carb/throttle body?

Im pretty sure the pcv port it the middle hose barb with the vacuum cap on it at the base of the mounting flange in this picture

    brand new Holley Sniper.

There is a spot for a 3/8 hose on the base of the TBI. it’s being used by the power steering. Edit: BRAKES not steering.

What? Why would you have a vacuum line run from the power steering, to the base of the TBI? That makes zero sense.

I ran the PCV to the #6 intake. Working good now. Would that cause that cylinder to run rich? My O2 sensor is on that side header collector.

You are correct. POWER BRAKES. Not steering. Sorry.

So, it was something to do with crankcase ventilation which is a whole lot better than other things that can cause oil to blow out the dip stick tube.

I don't like the PCV connection to just the #6 intake but is working. My question is, where is the air coming from? In a properly set up PCV system, clean filtered air is normally routed into the opposite bank at the opposing valve cover. I don't see that connection.

Agreed. There needs to be a breather cap in one of the valve covers or an intake tube from the air cleaner.

Would that spot I had the PCV originally connected to (photo above) on the back of the intake make a good spot for the breather intake?
