I got this Hi-lift knock off at a garage sale for $5. Not sure what brand it is, but it appears to be 80's or 90's vintage. I took it apart, replaced any corroded hardware, cleaned it, oiled it and it works like a charm.

Anyway, I was always afraid to mount my newish $100 proper Hi-lift on the hood in one piece because it would not survive 30 minutes in the wrong Walmart parking lot. I am not too worried about the $5 jack being stolen. The real Hi lift will stay at home in the garage until I need to go on a real adventure and my $5 knock off will handle the day-to-day duties around here.

Got the mounting brackets from Amazon for $20. The hardware that came with them were metric for the newer jeeps, but the brackets themselves are actually quite strong. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BT3728G?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Good question. I never run with the windshield down, except when i'm flat towing the jeep, but i'll remove the jack then. Maybe twice in 40 years have i driven with windshield down. I can open the hood with no problem with the jack on the mounts.

You could put a longer mounting bolt on one side & drill a hole in it for a small padlock.
Wouldn't stop a determined thief but it'd keep honest people honest...

Hear , Hear .....Doug is hitt'n it on the head here, Grant. From my observations , A lot of WalMarter's are the Quick hitter types : Both on the Meth pipe & with their Martian school of thievery . A Lock most certainly slow's them WAY down. In Fact, a lot of them know their limitations & will walk right by a locked object.

Ah, Thankyou, I have a factory sway bar but the links are not long enough with the YJs 2 inch lift springs. looks like they would work. :bananatool:

I will measure, I bet they will work because my factory links were about 8 in and appeared to be about 3 in too short. Thanks jim

What did I do to my Jeep today?
I drove it to the gas station at 6 am so my wife wouldn't have to stop on the way to work.
This is getting ridiculous, the rate she is going the jeep is going to be on a 3 month-3K mile oil change interval!
Today is casual Friday at her office. Yesterday is was a pencil dress and high heels, no doors. ;)

This could turn into "I got my Jeep out of impound...."
My wife just sent me this photo from her office window. She wants to drive on the sidewalk to leave work. :sneak:
I'm trying to convince her its a better idea to ask the caution tape be raised so she can leave.

In the immortal words of my son to his mother, "I'm not blocked in, I drive a jeep". All things being equal I did have to pull he him out of the ditch. I was proud. Ron

Got the spindle today . Already had the hub. It's the same set-up they use to decorate Cakes  It's gonna be invaluable when pin-stripping these wheels .

Oh ,by the way,.....Awhile back , one of our members showed a Jig that he made for pin- stripping his wheels. His Pics were Cherry. I recall even asking him if he would rent it or lend it out to me? I've searched & cannot find or recall who it was. Any help would be greatly appreciated

On steep downhill descents I have occasionally heard a grinding. I couldn't tell if it was throw out bearing, powerlok clutch chatter etc. My T18 shifter has always been sloppy. The trans itself was rebuilt. After pulling the top and draining the oil it's evident the idler has been sliding forward and chattering on the 1st/ reverse slider. Rebuilding the shifter, new stick on order from Novak. Mines an early (76 Wagoneer) doesn't use the nylon fork inserts. IMG_20220430_160916811.jpg
