Key Cylinder Swap

I have this Jeep key I want to use in snowshoe. The ignition switch that is in it now uses spade connectors with the big plug which I like. How do I pull the lock cylinder out and swap it over? Do I have to use the hole and a pice of wire and rotate it in a certain manner?

So....... as long as They're the same MFG. , such as the Pollak that your picturing , here's a step by step of how we do it :
1) unscrew the hex nut.
2) in the to be installed , vertical position... insert the working Key & turn to the ' On' position ......~ 1 o'clock position.
3) Remove the Key.
4) Thru the hole , depress the retainer. You'll ' Feel ' it's spring .
5) Remove the cylinder plug & then reverse the procedure with the cylinder plug that you want to use.

Let me know how you make out with this & We can then pronounce you a Honorey Jeep Locksmith . Or ornery , if you see fit .....

Oh Yeah ..... when one goes to insert the New cylinder plug, you'll need to manipulate the wafers on their springs , downward , one @ a time , while pushing it into the Journal / Body.

Thanks for the info. I put a new lock cylinder in my 55 chevy truck, which was very easy. Can I be an Honorary Chevy Locksmith?

 

Is there a way to remove the cylinder without the key? I have two locks that I acquired w/o keys. I also have several unmated keys. Was even toying with the idea of moving the wafers around so one key could be used on two jeeps. Local locksmith charges $25 per lock to rekey. Yes, I can afford it, but as I like the DIY approach and neither is immediately needed, I wondered. It's not a huge security issue as it is easy as can be to use a few wires to get these started without keys.

You could pick it . You could also attempt to move around the wafers , but you may not have the correct combination. The Locksmith does....Hence the $ 25 per lock to Re-Key.
That's one reason to use the nutted terminals ...... slows 'em down a bit.

 

An FYI.
The wafers used in the locking glove box are the same as the ignition. So you can have an extra 4 wafers to use to rekey the ignition tumbler if you remove the glove box wafers (who locks the glove box) These are very simple locks, and the difference in the slot heights on the wafers is not much. You can even file a slot if needed!
Having 8 wafers to choose from, I was able to key my tumbler to the new Jeep logo keys I got off eBay. There’s not that many combinations for these locks, and the cut on the keys are not that different too.

and if you’re not to worried about security, you could eliminate a wafer to make the key work.

Well, the ignition switch in Snowshoe is totally different... My plan was foiled!

 

If you want , Send me the C- numbers on the Jeep key that you want use. I can key alike another Pollak Ignition switch & sell it to you ?
Of course , they would be both nutted terminals , in which you wanted to get away from in the first place.

66, but when I built it, I had a spade style ignition switch in good shape, so I spliced the spade style plug into the original harness. I don't feel like swapping the harness back now that it works fine.

 

I have a couple of the modular spade type Pollak switches (NOS) that I might consider trading for the screw-on terminal type switches in excellent condtion. Yes, mine are all with original “Jeep” B&S keys.
