I will be installing a speedhut speedometer in my 73. No longer a need for my temperature gauge. What can I put in its place? Clock? USB port (leaning this way) or ??? Tia

Everytime someone puts a USB in a Jeep, God kills a puppy.

Vacuum gauges are cool. Ammeter, or voltmeter, can be useful.

    Ammeter for a generator.
    Voltmeter for an alternator.

Temperature gauge is in the original cluster. Not a hole by itself. Is that what you mean? The optional gauges for '73 are oil pressure and ammeter.

On my 3B with individual holes,I got rid of my fuel gauge, and did the 2" tach. And I changed from ammeter to voltmeter-much more useful.

I'ld vote for a clock but it's gotta be the right one.
USB is handy for charging lights and stuff but I don't like the built in stuff, gotta be a cigarette lighter and adapter.

One thing you can do on the cheap is get a guage hole blank from speedway and just put a sticker or magnet over it all.

I installed a voltage gage/usb on mine. I rarely use the USB’s but on the long trips (Rubicon, Moab, ect) it’s absolutely vital for phone, light and JBL speaker (my trail tunes) charging.

I had a 2" fuel gauge on the left side of the wheel that I no longer needed. I removed the glass, painted it black and reinstalled it. It blends in pretty good, and I don't have an open hole staring at me. Just seemed to be the best option besides patching the hole. I already have the speedo cluster for fuel and temp, and a small voltmeter, a clock, and a separate tach. Sometimes you just run out things to attach....lol. When I got my jeep....the PO had a row of 10 switches along the lower half. Only 2 were hooked up. A cluttered dash looks like crap in my opinion.

When I was a teenager I found a barrel full of surplus 'indicating' switches in a junkyard, probably from British WWII aircraft. I put a few in my car, with markings like "Bomb Release" etc.

Also got some instruments like compasses and artificial horizons, altimeters etc. Looking back, I'm pretty sure they all had radioactive (luminous) radium paint on the markings. The speedo and instrument cluster in my M38A1 is significantly radioactive.

For you're speedhut installation, i really suggest buying deutsch connector to connect cluster and dash wiring together , it made the install way easier and the day you need to work behing he dash you just disconnect the connector.

Thx. I was confused. Last owner had oil pressure, water temp. and ammeter. Not original.

Imho , a vacuum gauge is not needed , even on our FI engines. A voltmeter would be good to keep an eye on.
