I picked up this too-good-of-a-deal-to-pass-up today. Its a 1977 CJ7 with a rebuilt 360, granny low T18, 4" lift, D30 WT, AMC20 rear, 34x10.5 super swampers and a Lincoln locked rear diff. It's in decent shape, needs some attention for sure. Shouldn't take much to get it going. Already ordered new engine mounts since they are shot and new motorcraft 2100 carb for it. Figured that would be easier than trying to rebuild the one that is in it. Might also get a hydraulic clutch for it too.

Ted? He's all happy. Doesn't need any more work other than normal maintenance at this point. I have been driving the wheels off him. :D

If you need to work on the rear axle, you just set an excavator bucket on them. I've thought stingers were almost as useful as snorkels. Proper adornment for your typical mall crawler but of little use in the real world.

I like it. But cut that stinger thing off please. Other than that, I like it. Good find.

I dropped the gas tank and drained the water/gas mix out of it. I also fixed the leak around the sending unit and bolted it all back in properly.

Put the new carb on and installed some fresh gas and man that 360 runs sweet! :D Runs better on gas than it did on water.

Now to clean up some janky wiring and replace brake hoses.

Redid the battery wiring and mounted the battery properly without a ratchet strap. Slowly bringing it back to where it should be.

Woohoo! Does it have a top?

What's the VIN? According to the '77 TSM, the T-18 was only offered with the 258, though it would have been the desirable wide-ratio T-18. Likely a 360 transplant.

Supposedly the Motorcraft 21xx repops are pretty good. The Wagoneer guys like them. Swap and go.

It originally had a t150 behind the 360. The T18 was swapped in. Not sure if the 360 was ever an option or not.

The T-150 was standard equipment with the 304 '77-79. Possibly the Jeep came with a 304, and was swapped to a 360. The 360 was never offered in a CJ, but they are more plentiful than the 304 and a significant boost in power. It's bolt-in compatible - a 360 is just a 304 with a bigger bore and valves. If it was a 304, there will be an "H" in the VIN.

I’ll get back to you on that. And no it doesn't have a real too, just a bikini top with the doors.

Will a 258 bolt right in now as it sits or will a different length input shaft be needed?

Should bolt up. The bell pattern and bell housing are the same. Since it's a swap there might be some issues, but I'm sure you're up to it. I recall one of the mount towers is different for the six. Looking at the book, the towers change for 1977, with both sides different between the six and V8. Maybe a minor change; you'd have to look at the parts.

I am not going to swap it, more just curious, thats all.

I have taken it down some trails and I am impressed by how smooth the ride is compared to a Willys. The steering radius seems worse though.
