Ok,this was my first car. This exact cj6 was the first car I ever bought. I paid $2800 in 2001 and bought it from a used car dealer in Sweet Home OR. I owned it for a couple years while I was in high school and then sold it to go to college for 4500. I lived in Lebanon OR at the time. I'm assuming you bought it from an owner or two after I sold it. It was the first car I ever painted (sorry). It was single stage enamel from NAPA in "midnight blue". There was some rust in the hat channel on the driver side that had worked it's way out to the body under the diamond plate rocker (you'll see a small dent looking area there). It might be worth looking into because my 16 y/o self didn't really know how to fix that (I dug out the rust as much as I could and put some filler over it) I had the transmission rebuilt by schucks auto parts with a "stage 1" shift kit. I'm guessing that trans has less than 10k miles on it. I don't think the following owners drove it much. I twisted off a rear drive line once after pulling the detent out of the dana 18 (2 wheel drive low range shenanigans) so the rear was built on a lathe by a friends dad (machinist) out of 0.25 DOM tubing. It always had fender well headers for me and I remember the mufflers being kind of a pain. Never had a stitch of problems out of the motor or cooling system. I might've scabbed in a CB radio, but I don't remember. I also wired up some offroad lights and built some bumpers at one point (that giant front one was not mine though haha). I bouth those swamper LTBs one at a time until I had the full set and could afford those old steel wheels. It originally ran RTVs in 32x11.50x15. It had much better power with the smaller ones, but I was 16 and there were mud holes around. Since this jeep I've had many others, but this cj6 absolutely set me on a path in life full of cars, fabrication, and creating. I almost bought it back a few years ago when it popped up for sale back near my home town. I'm excited to see some quality work going into it! Please keep me in the loop if you don't mind. I'll check back on the thread once in a while. I can't believe I randomly found this while researching springs for an upcoming flat fender build. Thanks for posting!

Here is the last build I sold. From scratch custom built tub, frame, drivetrain, ect. Couldn't ever have taken this on without the early start on fab with the cj6.

Hey Cave, thanks for posting! Always good to find a previous owner and the history!

I found all the rust, and not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I am just waiting for my lift to be put in my shop, then I can tear into the body work.

    Regards,
    Jason

Well, it has been a while, life gets in the way. I have started to get back to the 6. I have started on the body, filling holes and going to replace the rear panels. I did strip the roll cage and get it painted, I can't think of anything I detest more than striping the cage, oh, except for painting it.

    At least it won't rust.

Got the fenders and hood pretty much done, a few spots to touch up. Welded up a couple of holes in the hood and some cracks on the fenders. Will add a sealer to it then color.

I was wrong, the roll cage is not the worst to prep and paint....My new unfavorite body part "The Grill"!

Well, got a little bit done over the holiday weekend. I am getting better at the spot welding on the sheet metal. It is a plus, when you find just the right setting, makes it so much easier. Not the prettiest, but getting better.
