On a 64 cj5, is the windshield frame black or body color? What year windshield glass will fit a 64?

Should be black ASFAIK. Glass from '55 through '68 should work. The change occurred in '69 or '70 when they arched the top of the glass.

Just a slight bit of information, ‘55-‘67 with top mount wipers are the same. Sometime around ‘67-‘68 there was a switch to bottom mount wipers but flat top glass. This glass is unique to that windshield frame. ‘68ish to ‘75 with bottom mount wipers and arched top glass is the same. I wish we hadn’t lost so much during the hack times because I had pictures posted of all 3 showing the differences.

Thanks Nick. I didn’t know about the early bottom mount wiper frames and glass being different from the old top mount wiper frames. I thought all of ones with same shaped glass were the same regardless of the type of wiper system.

Me too until I actually had all 3 at the same time and was able to measure and compare them.

Interesting. I have all three types here. I'll have to compare them.

I went out and took pictures and measurements of all three windshields.

Top wiper windshield on the '68:

Bottom wiper flat-top on the '69:

    Curved top on the '71:

They are all the same height from the bottom of the windshield to the bottom of the glass opening.

    '68 top wiper:

    '69 flat-top bottom wiper:

    '71 curved top bottom wiper:

The glass looks to be the same size on the top wiper and bottom wiper flat top windshields which is in contradiction with nickmil's post. I'm getting 14 1/4" from the bottom of the window opening to the top of the window opening on both.

Is there something else I need to measure?

    '68 top wiper:

    '69 flat-top bottom wiper:

It looks like the same stamping on both the flat-top windshields. The only differences appear to be where holes are punched for the wipers.

And for reference, some inside pictures.

'68 top wiper (non stock mirror and dome light):

    '69 flat-top bottom wiper:

    And finally the '71 curved-top:

Sorry for the hijack, thought it may be somewhat relevant, or at least a current thread!

That top should fit correctly on your ‘69. The arch of the top of the windshield frame is the same for all earlies, and I believe intermediates (up through ‘75). You just need the sheetmetal fillers for the sides of the windshield frame if you intend on using hardtop doors. Also, Hardtop doors are generally not interchangeable between brands.
