    Hi Guys
Would one of you guys take time to measure the distance from the bottom of the bellhousing....in the starter area....to the top of the driveshaft. At stock CJ5 with a factory 225 V6 would be a perfect candidate for a measurement.
I am installing a 231 in my CJ2A and would like to obtain a accurate measurement of the driveshaft to bellhousing clearance.
    Thanks, Jim

I think this is one of those measurements that will never be the same from jeep to jeep, even fresh off the assembly line. Weight of jeep and caster angle will change the measurements. I'm not even sure we hit a standard for the number of shims between the crossmember and frame and that will affect this dimension.

You are most likely correct. BUT, I am trying establish a starting point, a point of reference for driveshaft to bellhousing clearance.

If I get a chance, I'll go measure mine. Still has the stock springs under it.

Since Jeep put the smaller driveshaft in the V6 models to increase starter clearance, this is a real concern if you're not lifting the suspension.
Sorry, mine is not stock and I encourage you to put a 2 1/2" lift on yours. ;)
My clearance is 1 1/4". I would have thought it would have been more, but here are my disclaimers...
I have a 2 1/2" spring lift, Novak transfer case support and an Advance Adapters bell housing that has some thick cross sections.

My 67 V6 CJ5, with original springs/shackles, has all of 1 1/4" clearance between the driveshaft and starter and only about 3/4 to the bellhousing. This is all original parts. And yep, there is some rubbing on the bell.

So, with a 2 1/2" lift your driveshaft to bellhousing clearance is 1 1/4"?
WOW only 3/4" between the bell and driveshaft? Dang! Are you running the factory odd 2 piece front driveshaft or a one piece?

Original small u-joint driveshaft. Other than the Warn OD, that drivetrain/suspension is the same as it left Toledo with, including all the u-joints and the T86AA.

one concern also.....the bump stop on the righ side is there to prevent contact between the drive shaft and the bell housing.
