Does anyone have a source for 15" steel wheels that appear stock for the Metcalf ebrake disc conversion? I think they would require less than 4" backspace.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I had some custom ones built from early wheel
Company: the Felix bare. Simple steel and they fit with the metcalf kit. But I don’t know why stock wouldn’t. If I did it again I would probably get 16” due to more choices.

I have 4.5 backspacing on my stock wheels. The shoulder that is spot welded to wheel hits.

Factory wheels have ca 3.5" backspacing. Disk brakes were optional then standard starting in 1977, and I would expect any factory wheels from that era to fit over disk brakes. I would expect any aftermarket wheels with the right pattern, center hole and backspacing would work with disk brakes. Look at Summit Racing - they have many types of aftermarket wheels that will fit our Jeeps.

If you use the Jeep wheels, the centers were built for the big center hole. They need to be designed that way - you can't cut the center hole larger.

Note that modern cars have larger diameter wheels specifically so that they will fit over the larger disk brakes that are used today. If the brakes were sold for vehicles with 15" wheels, I would expect any of the above-mentioned wheels to fit. If you use some huge Brembos that were standard with 20" wheels, the Jeep wheels won't fit.

It would be helpful to put your year/model/equipment in your signature file. Then it will appear at the bottom of every post.

Here's the back side of the Summit wheels. Pretty good clearance in the brake area:

anyone done this with stock early CJ5 wheels and longer studs + spacer? would 1/4" spacer be enough? Thinking about going this route for disk brakes on my 5.

My 62 cj5 had 4 stock wheels with a Metcalf disk break on all 4 corners. No spacing was needed. I did do longer wheel studs though

My CJ2a had 15" bronco rims on it when purchased, I converted to Brennans discs and the 15" rims bolted right up and rolled with no rubbing.
