    I like my 10.50's but more than once I've thought a little more footprint might have made the difference especially on the rock obstacles I have been denied. I may change my mind after the front locker install...

    Just a lot more tire to grip the rocks, and not fall in the holes. When I went to a Detroit locker, power steering and 33 12.50's on my 3B (in its previous life), it was a night and day different trail experience. And I didn't hit the body (as much).

    I run 33X12.5X15 with no problems. I do have the wider Dana 30 that helps.

    Like Tim said.... The 12.50's provide more grip.
    I really like my BFG AT 33x10.5's on 7" wide rims for daily driving, winter driving (no splash) and hunting. 10.5 wide in an aggressive AT type tread is my favorite look on an early CJ with 2.5" lift.
    I recently picked up a set of 8.5 wide slot mags that I will throw a set of 33x12.5's on for camping/wheeling/rubicon trips. I have been throwing 2" wheel spacers on the jeep before every trip to get the tires wider than the body for protection. Might as well run 2" wider tire instead.... gain traction and body protection!

    I have thought about buying 33x12.50's for serious off roading and keeping the 31x10.50's for everything else. I can barely climb into the CJ with 31's.

    Using the same wheel width and offset, the 12.50 wide tires will not allow as much turning radius as the 10.50 wide tires. This is because the wider tire will contact the frame rail sooner.
    Also, the wider tires will scrape the rear inner fenders sooner than the narrower tire. Even my 10.50s create some rubber rash on the rear fenders during full suspension flex.
    Overall, these may be minor issues for the driver, but should be considered before purchase.
    If ultimate traction is all you're after, then get the 12.50s! This increased traction may find a weakness elsewhere in your drivetrain, though. ;)

    my 46 broke one of the the stock rear axle shafts on the street with 33" tires.

    Heck, my 9.50s rub the inside of the rear fender well. I don't think you'll get away from it if you're wheeling with oversized tires. Period. I rub my front springs too, ever so slightly. Got the stop nuts adjusted for max turn with minimum rubbage.

    I ran 12.50s back in the old days when I first got the JEEP. They were on it when I brought it home. Never broke anything wheeling (blew a transfer case apart on the road once but that was a whole different scenario) but that was east coast forest trails with mud and trees. Not rocks. Rock work is a whole different world where the traction and torque have a much greater affect than you would experience in slippery mud.

    Yeah, not recommended with stock shafts, but you must have had something hanging on by a thread from previous damage.

    it looked like a pretty clean fresh break to me, but I didn't analyse it too much. put a 9" in the rear and a D44 in the front shortly after.
