The Original fuel tank quantity sensor on my 1962 CJ5 project measured Mega ohms (open).
I found resistance between the brass wiper and the sensor body. I drilled out the two 3/32” rivets, removed the float arm and cleaned the wiper and the rectangular opening that the wiper makes contact with. I reassembled the float arm with two #4 x 3/8” sheet metal screws. The sensor now measures about 11-80 ohms and drives the indicator accurately.
