Revolver shackles

    I have installed front and rear revolver shackles on my cj6. I have had a pair on the front for about a month and have not noticed any on road handling issues. I installed the rears tonight and also installed a 72 blazer rear drive shaft. I removed the transfer case E-brake and installed the rear yoke from a dana 20 ( the 72 Blazer had a factory installed d-29), the dive is a lot bigger and has more length for when the rear shackles open up( about 5"). I tried the front drive shaft from the blazer but it was about 1.75" inches to long. If you have the bigger yokes installed it is a bolt over swap( same size u-joints) I also have bought longer shocks. I have a few more repairs to finish and well update once I try the new shackles out on a run

    I talked to a very reputable jeep shop here in socal about them. What they said is all they do is droop no real pressure to tire cause theres no tension. You may keep contact but no real added traction, because no real weight is being transferred to that tire. And dont know how it would react to street use :shock:

    I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I was offered a set of Revolvers for free and I wouldn't take them. I've seen them on the trails many times and I wouldn't run them. They add a level of randomness to your suspension that I would not want. I like my suspension to be predictable.

    I have a rancho 4" lift with 2" shackles installed, the shackles were vertical with the frame and were at full droop all the time and the springs wouldn't flex at all( rode like a buckboard wagon) The revolver shackles are the same length however the spring eyes are now forward of the upper spring mounts and now I have the springs able to compress(Flatten out) and still run 35" tires.

    I have read a lot about the pro's and con's on the revolver shackles and the same things could be said about buggy springs, quater springs, and other suspension modifcations.

    As with any modifications it will add a different " feel" to the vehicle till it becomes normal to you. The tire contact on the ground is usual perfered over having it hanging in the air? I have front and rear lockers . And with a light weight vehicle your tire contact with the ground is going to be less than a heavier vehicle running the same size tire. As with any modification on a jeep what works for me may be not be what you would do. I plan on taking some pictures and well post them and well update this forum on the shackles ( long term test). If nothing else I have put all new poly bushings in the spring mounts.
