Late 60s a neighbor had a long bed crewcab IH. A real family hauler.

Versus a modern F-350 the front doors and cab is significantly shorter. I bet that the overall length is really close. My 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Long Bed has a 169" WB and an overall length of 259.4" or ~21'7". The fact that that IH is 2wd and sits so low to the ground helps "lengthen" it visually.

They do sit lower than a modern 4x4

Seems like modern ones are sitting so high now of days you can't really use them as a truck. You have to lift heavy things to chest height just to get them in the bed!

    It's a big reason I've always had 2wd pickups

There's another reason that my newest pickup is 35 years old at this point. I don't have to give myself a back injury loading and unloading it, and I can actually drive it down most 2-way city streets, without feeling like it's taking up both lanes.

My one serious complaint about my ‘04 Silverado with overload springs. I carry a step stool so I can get in the bed.
