Fixing to do my first oil change in my 65 CJ5....It has the oil bath canister....Advice on what to do in there when you do the oil change....is there anything in there that gets replaced? Seems like all I remember there being was some steel wool like stuff in there....

    Thanks folks!!

Probably has a replaceable element to change out.

Clean the oil dregs and sludge from the bottom of the canister, and put a new gasket under the lid.

On my 53 I replace the cover gasket and washer seal on bolt along with canister. I got mine from napa and I think it included the cover gasket. I suction out left over oil and wipe out canister housing. There is no mesh or steel wool. Can't remember but I think I also poured some oil in canister housing before reassembling.

If we're talking about oil bath air cleaner, yes that has a mesh. Take all pieces out, clean, flush mesh in kerosene and add 10/30 to level specified on oil tray, reassemble.
