72 Cj5 Axles On A 79

    Will 72 cj5 axles bolt in a 79 with what i assume is a 3 speedT150 and Dana20 TC and Dana30/AMC20 axles?

    Nope, they will not just "bolt in". But it can be done.

    Yes, the 79 will have wider springs so reuse the plates and get appropriate u bolts ( new, don't reuse) The 72 front has drums you can move the 79 spindles brakes rotors etc over. The 72 rear has 11" drums the 79 10". The only snafu I see there is brake hoses but thats not a big hurdle. The parking brake cables shouldn't present a big hassle either.
    The 72 centered flanged 44 is considered superior to the corporate 20 ( technically the r&p in the AMC rear is slightly stouter but the rest of the axle is weak)
    You shouldn't encounter major obstacles.

    The '76 and up CJ-5s have a wider chassis in back, so you will also have to move the spring perches on the rear axle:

    The 79 disk brakes will fit the 72 front axles without changing the axles shafts or anything? Are there any D44 that are bolt in?
