Well the axle is in. I am glad I have made this switch. After messing around with this for a couple of weeks I have really taken notice of how much better the 30 is than the 27. I still have to bolt the differential cover on and fill it with fluid, dial in the drag link & tie rod, then it will be ready for some testing.

I don't have locking hubs for this yet but I found a set of new warn premium hubs on amazon for $157. It is a returned package, so I don't really know how new they are. I am just running drive flanges for now during testing.

One more comment about Warn hubs and then I will shut up. I have always liked to think Warn hubs are the best made. Made in the USA, always the best choice for jeeps, blah blah blah. I have 2 sets of used M-195/9062 hubs. Both of them are garbage. One set was made with nylon bearings for the spline collars to run on the axle. It is the same quality of bearing as found on a walmart fishing reel i.e. complete crap. I hope warn enjoyed the 12 cents they saved by making that design choice. On that set the plastic bearings spun and ate into the aluminum housing. Ruined.
The other set had the typical caged roller bearing doing the same job, but one of them the rollers seized up and the collar was just turning metal against metal. Ruined. I suppose that was my fault for buying used parts off of ebay. I have only used one of the sets (the plastic bearing set) on my rear full float axle for flat towing duty. Warn has a great name and could make a great product if they keep the accountants out of the engineering department. I hope these new ones are good, otherwise I will be ordering Mile Markers and put the new warns on rear axle duty, ie. mostly in the toolbox not being used.
    End of rant.

Damn, the 9062's are supposed to be the good ones.
However, I would NOT use Mile Markers! I once broke a set of those while sitting still LOL. I had a flatbed trailer hooked to my truck & we were loading a car on it, the force of the car coming up on the trailer snapped the pot metal lock ring in one of my new MM hubs

Okay the new warn hubs arrived today. I am impressed with the quality, much better than the old junk I had & better designed. The seal to the hub is now done with an o-ring rather than a flat gasket or the usual gobs of RTV. The bearing is very tight & smooth so I think it will hold up. The knob has detents that click into the 4x4 & 4x2 positions. So warn is no longer on my sh*t list.

The new chrome looks like bling. I will keep an eye on the bolts to make sure they don't get loose since the custom tabbed lock washers are no longer supplied. I don't want to pay $2 each to kaiser willys either.

I wonder how many tabs can ship in an envelope? And what guage are they? I think I might have one around but the chances of me finding then is nil.

Been working on the "62 getting ready for the HITR.
Adding a winch. Welded the winch plate over the weekend. Painted it tonight.

Seeing James working on his frame, I decided to check my frame for cracks. Sure enough I found one on the front shackle hanger.
It doesn't look too bad as just the weld is cracked. I guess I have another project for the weekend.

My hubs kept getting loose in Colorado and had one bolt broken off on both sides. I tried drilling for ez-out and I tried welding a nut but no luck. So 2new spindle hubs installed tonight. Yearly grease to the bearings while we’re at it.

The driver side spindle has always given me trouble as somehow the inner bearing is way too tight and never comes off with the hub. I swapped spindles with the spare D30 in the driveway and we’re good to go.

I put my Gopro under the bumper to take a look at the newly installed Dana 30 in action. I still have some fine tuning to do on the steering, but I am very happy with how tight this axle turns. I haven't had a chance to take it off road yet to try the Torq-Locker lunch box, but I will soon.

Good video. It is amazing how much play there is in the springs and front mount. Drag link angle looks similar to mine and I experience
about a half lane of left turn bump steer over dips and rises in the road. It is a little more at speed and can be a little
unsettling. Planning on and have the flip kit to install.

Yes a tie rod & drag link flip is on my list as well.
    Edit:
After saying this I checked: goferit's website is gone. So either I have to find another brand or cut out the ones I have in the dana 27.

Are there any other makers of the tie rod flip inserts?

Or alternatively I could get a pitman arm with a drop.
    1st world problems!

The drop pitman would work but they mostly come in 4". The price puts it close to the flip kit and the kit raises your
tie rod out of the way...so a win there. Noticed that you didn't use castle nuts and cotter keys on your TRE's.

Channeled my inner ITLKSEZ and sew'd up a new shift boot. PO upgraded to 231, and trans wasn't centered in the shifter opening, OEM style rubber boot didn't fit. Had some left over vinyl from working on my old 914. Used the old invert boot and use tie-wrap to hold in place trick.

Finally washd the '71. It was still coated in mud from our rainy Spring. Three inches thick in some parts of the fenderwells:

The cat rode along in the Jeep when I moved it outside. Such a goofy cat:

The '69 is still on the wash list. I think I only wash the poor Jeeps about once a year.

This is something I've been meaning to do for a few years... ever since I first read about this incident:
    https://cj3b.info/Tech/Axles.html

Ignore the extra backing plate holes this spindle is just good enough to get home on. The indexing boss is turned down to 2.875 +- and I'll eventually put a freeze plug in the center.
No drum or rotor on the hub to work with any dana 25-27-30-44 as an idler.

Just want to answer my own question. There is a company selling flip kits now on amazon. They look just like the Goferit product.

I got a good look at James’s toolbox while in Colorado this year. My new eBay box was under $100 for a 30” ATV Toolbox. Had to space it up a bit so the lid opens above the fender.

Next i reinstalled the driver side slider. Pretty much ripped it off on the last trail, Holy Cross.

I ordered new lower tub panels today from Classic Enterprise. I’ll get into that after the next/last wheeling trip of the year coming up in a couple weeks.
