Working on getting interior ready, added seat belts, roll bar padding, and side mirrors. Took another page from ITLKSEZ and used some UTV roll bar mounted mirrors. They swing in and out with ease, so good for parked garage jeep. Also added some grab straps so my 5'1" wife can get into the passenger seat. I thinks it's about time to tow to a muffler shop to get some exhaust added (if they can fit it in, I'll have them add catalytic.) Getting closer :)

I was recently told that Idaho has no emissions testing. Why are you adding a catalytic converter?

Very true, no inspections as of this year. Biggest reason would be to reduce gas smell :)

Pulled the lunchbox locker out of the D35 (Previous owner installed) and installed a new set of open diff spider gears.

Put a new used muffler on the old one rusted out. This is a stainless honda one might last a little longer. I think this is the 4th muffler I had on it since 08.

    A few reasons.

1)I'm not a fan of locking the D35. I've seen a stock open D35 break an axle shaft on the street. My friend was in the ditch on 3 wheels and the axleshaft and other wheel were sitting up right in the road like a stripper pole lol.

2)I drive this Jeep on the street a lot too, and I'm not a fan of the handling manners when going around corners, even on dry roads. Lots of over and understeer when you have to modulate the throttle. I could see it being a handful in the rain if you aren't really careful.

Long term goal is having helical gear limited slips on each end. Would like to do this with my XJ as well but currently on that Jeep the open rear and PowerTrax No-Slip in the front are working very well for me both on and off road.

I have the same mirrors (got the idea from the same place). I'm very happy with them, except when I put on my full doors I have to switch back to original type.

    Installed new fender flares
    New hubs and lug nuts
Exhaust turndowns to direct exhaust away from passenger compartment
Removed heavy rear spare carrier and installed high lift jack. Also new tailgate chains and a license plate light and bracket
    Replaced old carburetor

It's getting there. Finally got to use 4WD this past weekend. Relieved and pleased everything worked. :)

Went home for lunch to work on some junk, needed some drill bits from the garage and checked to see if the jeeps were there.

Gonna be traveling a bunch of hiway miles next week, so I decided to repack the wheel bearings on the CJ.

    Don't forget your tow lights...
I've got 20 diodes from a 10year old thread that I haven't gotten around to.
I also have not put cutting brake inline master cylinders on my tow bar mounts for flat tow brakes...

I just use magnetic tow lights. It's not ideal but I've been towing this jeep with them for 24 years.

A while ago, I bought an extended frame, just to get the suspension, axles , wheels and tires.

Then, I stripped all the stuff I wanted, and…

    1EAF6D25-951B-4445-8F48-B722FAC60230.jpeg

It was junk - an intermediate CJ5, stretched to fit a ‘7, then had body mounts added. And traction bars, sway bars and a goofy cross-link on the front axle.

These pieces will be hauled off to the scrappers.

Planning my brake upgrade for the rear axle. I got a set of 11" drum brakes with the dana 30 front axle I bought and installed a while back. I put my disk brakes on it when I installed it, so I ended up with a set of 11" drum brakes. I am planning to replace my original 10" rear drum brakes with these, so I went through them and made sure everything was installed correctly.

Later edit: These wheel cylinders may not be right for the 11" rear, but I have a proportioning valve in there already for the rear brakes, I think I can dial them back. If not I'll get the 15/16" wheel cylinders.

I also went through & cleaned up all the 27 spline warn hub parts I have and cobbled together a good usable set of hubs for the rear axle. I used the plastic (Nylatron) bearings that came with one of the hub sets. The hubs are ugly but they'll work. I wouldn't use these on the front but my rear axle hub lockers don't get much use, I run drive flanges on the rear most of the time, I just need these when flat towing. I will run them a little while to test, but then they go in to the jeep's storage box.

I don't want to install these right now because the fall weather is nice. I want my jeep to be in running condition for the time being. When a rainy period is forecast (usually in November) I'll get to work on the install.
