Steering Box Questions

    Does this box look to be the correct one for a 65? Steering has very little free play
    Nice and tight surprisingly.
    Also, why does it have a wire coming out the bottom?

    It looks like a typical ross box, the wire is the horn wire negative side. The horn button completes the negative side of the circuit for the horn to beep.

    Do you have a V6 or 4 cylinder? 1965 first year for Dauntless. I don't know for sure but I believe a V6 Ross casting is different from the 4 banger Ross casting just slightly, but the guts are the same. Hopefully someone with more knowledge then I will respond.

    The guts are not the same. The V6 casting is the same as the M38-A1 and is bigger all around with bigger internal components. For example, the sector shaft is 15/16" diameter for the V6/M38-a1 and 7/8" diameter for the 4 cylinder. Nothing interchanges between the two boxes.

    Might not be a bad time to think about a dual master cylinder upgrade.
