I am very slowly getting started on the winter project with my 3B.
My plans are to change the T15 trans out for a T18 wide ratio. I have got the trans built and ready.
Also I'm going to change out both axles. I have an offset flanged D44 at a local shop right now getting new 5.38's and an OX locker installed. I have a set of 11" brakes to add to that. I also have a D30 disc unit from a late 70's cj. I am installing the new gears and OX locker in that one myself. Wish me luck.

But you don’t need luck. You need to get out in that cold garage and roll around the cold concrete.

I am using setup bearings, so although time consuming, it's not crazy hard to change.

    Oh yes
An overdrive makes for a completely different jeep.
5.38's for the woods and the overdrive for the hiways

For a front differential, I'd call that pattern good.
I'm no expert but have watched this many times recently as I may be swapping my front differential soon.
If this was on the rear, I would probably try to get the pattern a bit closer to the root.

I have run into a little issue with the Ox locker. Setup is mostly complete, and now going back to clean, and make temp fits more permanent. Honestly didn't pay much attention to the ring gear bolts that came with the kit when I temporarily put this together. I only have about a 1/4in of thread engagement thru the carrier into the ring gear. Torque value is 55 lbs. I'm not really comfortable with that on a 3/8 fine thread bolt with such little thread contact.
Chip at Ox said he knew about this and had never heard of any problems.. Also called Drivetrain Specialist, and he said basically there was only the standard length bolt available.
Whats the best route here? Maybe a basic grade 8 of the correct length?

Might look around, some fly wheel bolts might be the same , Also might check with some of the bolt suppliers like Mc Master Carr ect. I have no idea what the bolt grade may need to be.

I think metal shaper covered a similar issue in a d44 rebuild video. Might just have been an issue with length and safety wire.

I agree a different bolt is a good idea.

Why not contact the ring gear manufacture, explain your issue/concern and ask for their recommendation? They may be able to provide a different set of bolts or at least recommend a length and grade of bolt to use.

Finally got the chance to work on it a little. Drivetrain Specialist came up with some ring gear bolts, 1in long.
Here's what it looks like rite now. Waiting on wheel seals now. Thought I had them, but nooo!

Another question for you guys. I have looked at several sites for a rebuild kit for my Warn lockouts. Some parts are available, but I really need the little springs. About the size of ink pen springs.
Anyone know where to find a complete rebuild kit?
