I recently sold my 2003 4runner which was my daily driver for the last 16 years. I loved it but I was spending too much time and money maintaining it. It had about 200k on it. Also since my wife and I are transitioning in to retirement I wanted something with more towing capacity.

I have been looking for a Ford, Chevy, Toyota or Nissan Truck under $15k. That usually means high mileage and needing work. I had an appointment for this coming Monday for seeing a Nissan titan in Shawnee Ok. It looks like an incredible deal for a nicely maintained truck with 103k miles on it.

But then I got up this morning and ran my usual autotrader search out of habit and this popped up:

Notice the Titan on the right. I thought "that must be wrong, they left a 1 off the mileage". Anyway I was on their lot when they opened at 8 and then broke every rule when it comes to talking to a car salesman. I opened the hood, ran the engine, and crawled under it. I said "only $10k are you kidding?" Anyway I bought it. I almost had to because I was drooling all over it. I am thrilled.

It really only has 58k miles on it. It was owned by a retired guy who had it since new. He kept it in the garage, and had all its service work done at the Nissan dealer. He just traded it in last night, so the Ford dealer hasn't cleaned it or anything.

This must be what it feels like to find a Mopar Superbird in a barn. I couldn't sign the paperwork fast enough. During the hour or so I was on the lot 2 other fellas showed up wanting to buy the truck. "You snooze you loose guys!"

Anyway they are going to give it its full service work like any of their cars and have it ready Monday. Because that is president's day I will have to pay them Tuesday. Then I'll be bringing my new baby home.

Is it 4wd or 2wd? I was a bit disappointed when I realized the Expedition was 4wd but without a low range transfercase

It's 2wd, but that is what I wanted. No real need for the added complexity of the 4wd components. Between my wife's Highlander and the jeep I should be okay if I have to get out on ice or snow.

Well it turns out the bank was open today, so I got the truck home this evening. I already have new tires ordered for it. The ones on it are 10 years old and are showing lots of cracks. The ford dealer changed the oil & coolant and topped off all the fluids. They also gave it a good inspection & cleaning.

The only real problem is the color is OU red, and I am a die hard OSU (Okla. state) fan so I bleed orange. I will need to get an orange OSU tag for the front and a OSU license frame for the back in order to mark my territory.

Here it is with the rest of my fleet. Next I will get hooked up to the boat & the jeep (flat tow) to see what drop hitches I'll need, if any.

Looks like a great truck. My son has a Pathfinder and loves it. He loves his Nissan vehicles. He had an Altima 2 door and it ran and ran. Finally wore it out. That thing would absolutely fly.

I have a '91 Hardbody extra cab 4WD and the odometer was broke at 246,000 miles when I bought it 16 years ago.
This is my go to puddle jumper with a rack on the back.
