Well, allow me…non-greasable is just that, so, I can’t be held responsible for their tragic failure. On the other hand, greasable means I have the opportunity to maintain the part, and as such, if I don’t fulfill my obligation, it’s my fault. This way, I can keep my lazy, non-maintenance lifestyle with a clear conscience. Somehow, that makes sense to me. Welcome to my mindset.

Makes perfect sense. But to me, a shot of grease is actually less maintenance than replacing failed UJ's.

The song that made the Beatles jealous.

    The video, not so much.

Ok, here’s the update…with a new driveshaft in, it’s actually worse. Driveshaft angle is close to 25 degrees now. I’m going to have him install 8* shims, and see if that gets it close enough to drive, as he says he doesn’t recommend even driving it. I know a guy at another shop who can cut and weld the perches if needed…just empty every pocket

If you installed a double cardan joint without cutting and welding the perches, that’s on you. You can’t do one without the other.

I dunno. I just used shim wedges on the rear spring perches when I put a slip-yoke eliminator and double cardan in my YJ, with a 4" lift.

And yet, i did…i dont recall blaming anyone, so i do indeed claim the responsibility. Ignorance is not a bad thing unless one doesn’t learn from the experience

I’m just saying, it’s not fair to those of us who tried to help by giving you all the info you needed, then claiming surprise when the vibrations are worse when our direction wasn’t followed.

Shims might work, but they’re not the greatest solution, especially at greater than 6°. That’s putting a lot of faith in the centering pins and u-bolts.

Interesting, i just went back and looked and from i could see, most seemed to go with new DC driveshaft, and shims to help. BTW, the shims came with the lift, so i figured rough country must have taken that into account when supplying them

You can get the degree mark (°) by holding down the Shift and Option keys while pressing 8, thus: 2°, 7°, 32°, 212°, etc. This on a Mac. I'm confident PCs have the same capability, but I don't know the key combination.

Head to Harbor Fright (geeeze, I never ever thought I'd be saying that) and pick up one of there digital angle finders. Cheap and appear to work as well as most others.

Getting the rear driveshaft angle set at an acceptable angle is always a compromise Even after welding on the perches on my 3B where they appeared to be needed, I ended up having to shim it a bit when all said and done.

    For a PC
hold down Alt 0176 will give you the ° symbol
hold down Alt 0248 will give you the ø symbol
hold down Alt 0177 will give you the ± symbol
