    Hi all

I always liked the look of the screen that goes on the front of a jeep. Plus, it could help to keep branches out the radiator.

I made one using extended plate??? Not sure of the exact term, but here is a pic of the project. I need your opinion, should I paint it black or white ???

Looks nice. White blends in well. Originally called a chaf guard I think (chaf being the thick dust left from hay/straw being dry and breaking up)

White or black would look good but I'd mount it to the inside so you can still clean the stock grill fins. JMO.

Looks good! I think the white will highlight the hole for the hood latch too much. I'd go with black.

:iagree: I would go black so the grille will still look like a normal Jeep. I would try to mount it on the inside, but they are a pita to do that way and the aftermarket ones are on the outside like yours. Looks nice either way. Is that just steel expanded metal you used, or is it galvanized or stainless??

If it is SS, leave unpainted. if not I would paint black for some nice contrast. $.02

It is not stainless, otherwise I would have left it as it is. I think I will try to spray it white first, judge the look, and go with it or black. I'll take pics of this also.

And no, I wont chrome it. For some reason, I don,t think chrome belong on a trail-used jeep. maybe on street driven only jeep, but not on mine.

But I don't want to open a can of worm here, chrome is nice if you like it, but not on my jeep.

    Thanks all

I vote for black, and put it on the inside, but I don't know how you're gonna get it in there. And take a small grinder and smooth off all of those little sharp points, or they'll scratch you to shreds and catch everything that gets near them. If you have to keep it outside, then I'd say white. But still grind those points smooth. You'll regret it if you don't.

Expanded metal is the correct name for that metal. The original ones had a u shaped metal trim around them. I'll bet if you put some of that black plastic trim they sell for door edge guards it would look good! The stuff I'm talking about is u shaped.

You could also buy a small roll of the door molding trim and put it all the way around the edge of it. That is basically what they do on the aftermarket ones. You can get it pretty much anywhere in black or chrome, but black since you don't want chrome. Just my .0213

Edit: dangit Glenn, you were a little faster than me.

    All done

The screen is white. here is the final look and also how it holds to the grill. I found some eye-bolt that I cut into hooks. They attache to the grill, and I screw with the wing-nut.
