i AM PUTTING A 4.3 IN A M38A1 AND WOULD LIKE TO USE A SM465 OR SM420 TRANS. I'M NOT SURE WHICH BELLHOUSING, YEAR, WILL FIT WITHOUT HAVING TO USE AN ADAPTER. I WANT TO USE A HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SET ALSO. I'M ALSO LOOKING FOR A SCHEMATIC FOR THE 1993 4.3 TPI HARNESS.

Sorry about the caps. Thanks for the images of the wiring harness. I spoke to Novak adapters and they said use a mid range(year wise) bell housing. Not an early or late model but an in between year. They wouldn't elaborate anymore than that. They wanted me to buy their's.

Sm420 uses a small hole bellhousing, the Sm465 uses a large hole bellhousing.

If you find an SM420 and need a bell housing let me know. I’ve got a cast iron bell housing from an SM420 sit’n in my garage. I couldn’t use it ‘cause it’s so big it interfered with my through the floor pedals.

The bellhousing I went with for my 4.3 swap is a factory Chevy hydraulic unit which was available from 1985-1991 (or so my sources say) on the full size (C/K series) and smaller (S/T series) trucks with SM465 4 speed transmission. It took me a while to find one but I feel it was well worth it.
