Recently I noticed (remember, I've been hiding under a rock for years) that Herm's providing a Ford power steering conversion kit now. I like the looks of it. I happen to have a matching pump and steering box of the correct type for the conversion. I am very interested in doing this on my jeep rather than going with the saginaw setup...

I notice in all the pics of installing hte steering box bracket, the body is off.

Is it possible to install that kit without taking the body off? Or I guess I really mean with the front clip off...

My DPO busted his tie rod when this jeep was on the deer lease, and they just put the double-end on the bellcrank and put two short drag links, one to each wheel... To quote the DPO and say "it handles like a runaway stagecoach" would be an understatement.

I have bump Toe instead of bump steer. :D

As such, I'm gonna do *something* to the steering setup, and if I have to buy a whole new tie rod and drag link setup anyhow, might as well convert to power and use herm's goodies. :)

It really depends on which engine you have but I'm going to guess that it's not likely you'll be able to install the kit with the front clip installed. The front clip is easy enough to remove, especially if you can find a helper for a couple of hours. My Jeep has a 4.3L, which makes it necessary to pull the engine at least partially out to install the steering box. I'm not sure if that's the case with the F-head or 225.

Call and talk to Herm. He's very personanable and knowladgeable, he has history on his stuff and can help. I happened to mount it on a stripped frame, Herm used my pic's in his web site. Something tells me you can, but talk to Herm http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/

On the front of the head right over the steering box. I used a Buick bracket, I modified it due to the close proximity of the belt on the steering box. I'll try to get a couple of pictures.

Cool, Joe. I'd like to see the pump mounting when you get a chance. I was planning on talking to Herm about this and other things before buying, was just really looking to see if anyone knew for fact. Really I'd just have to pull the drivers-side stuff and the grille, i think... but who knows... I don't want to strip down any more than I have to, but since I have to fix the steering before I can get it on the road again, might as well do it right the first time...

Mine's in the mail.:) I'll try to get som pics as I'm doing it if people want. I'll be running a dana 30 swap and 225v6 as well on my 57 cj6. The main reason I'm running this setup is I need room for my pto winch out front.
