I got a stock F Head and am thinking about adding lights (offroad) after I get a roll cage and possibly a winch (mostly light's for now)

I was wondering what the amp rating is on a stock Generator/alternator?

I'm not sure how to take it he does use / between gen and alt. I think the Gen was good for 35A also wasn't it? I am stil running a 35A Motorola Alt on my v6 and it works ok but the only added load is the winch and it is seldom used.

Book sez 35 amps for the genny I hear that there are also 45 amp versions as well, recently mentioned on a thread here or on WT, can't remember which.

Stock Motorolas & standard GM 10SI alternators are 35 amps as well:rofl:

35 A at 14 volts is 490 watts to play with, standard headlights are 110 on high beam, running lights are (IIRC) about 20, say 10 for the brake lights/turn signals & not very much for the ignition, call it 20 to be safe. If I added it all together right thats a load of about 160 watts at most, leaving you over 300 watts to play with.

Alternator? We Need No Stinkin Alternators !

The big difference is that gennys are more efficient (so you burn less gas to light those lights:) but an alternator will put out full power at a lower RPM , but hey, do you want to put all those lights on so you can creep around the woods idling all night or so you can go bombing over the little furry night creatures at Full Throttle???-

    I Thought So:twisted:
