yesterday i went to see my old four wheeling buddies from the chevrolet days.i got a d 20 for a 6 pack.great deal right, wrong.two gears are missing
half the teeth.it's the two that mesh when you pull the shifter towards the
back.my question is can i swap all the guts out of my d 18 to my d 20.the two gears are the intermediate and input side.bob

You could but theres no gain to it from stock, you already have the large hole case which is the same as the dana 20 case.

i checked the d 18, it works .the d 20 has half the teeth missing on two gears. i was wondering if the gears would interchange.i thought if they would
    i chould switch them all if possible.i changed to a centered 44,so i need to use a d 20.bob

Are the d20 and large hole d18 cases the same? If so I may have solved my problem.

i was hoping that the output shaft for the back rear end would interchange
as one unit.same for the intermidate gear.the front output shaft and gears
    are ok.the d 20 came in a suburban,only one i ever seen.bob

    nickmil In mothballs.

Don't throw away the rear output from that Chevrolet Dana 20. They are different than Jeep or Scout and are harder than hades to find for the guy who needs one. Nickmil

the big gear on that shaft is one of the gears missing half the teeth.i know where another one is connected to a chevrolet turbo 400 now.i think this is still too long driveline for me even for mostly street driven.bob
