For those of you running a poly gas tank mounted like the '76 and up Jeeps, where the tank straps to the skid plate, did you put anything between the tank and the skid? I just got a new MTS poly tank and new skid plate ('76 and up style) that I'm putting in my '71 to replace a badly leaking original steel tank. I have some 1/4" thick rubber sheet that I'm thinking of cutting in 2" wide strips to lay in the "grooves" in the skid plate to give a slight cushion between the tank and skid plate. What do 'yall think?

    I didn't.

I just strapped it down running some strapping material over the top of the tank; so it didn't move around.

I didn't put anything under mine either. Just ran the strap plain against the tank. Haven't seen any chafing as of 6K miles.

After looking at the tank and skid some more I've decided not to put anything between them. The grooves in the skid plate that I was thinking of laying the rubber strips in are there for drainage purposes. If I put the rubber strips in there then the skid plate will hold water and mud with no way to flush it out.
