Hey all. I have a problem. I was driving the jeep into town the other day and then I let me foot off the pedal and the motor started coasting down like it was dying out. I pulled over and it wouldn’t run unless I had my foot on the gas. I even had to pop start it on the way home. I opened the hood and it looked like it was leaking from the plunger/pump that the throttle pushes down. I’m not a big carb guy, but I took it apart, cleaned, and rebuilt it about a month ago. I’ve been driving it around with no problems but this suddenly happened. Any suggestions? I haven’t taken it apart yet, maybe today after work.

It is a carter AFB 4bbl

If the gas is coming out the top at the pump rod, maybe your float is sticking and allowing the bowl to overfill. I would think that by opening the throttle you are giving more air, which would get the fuel/air into a range that might allow the engine to run.
    Just my 2 cents, Rick

Thats happened to me alot. Any time I put the clutch in it would stall. Then it would take forever to start unless you pop start it. ****ed off everyone behind me. Anyway, everytime its been leaky floats or bad adjustment. Having a leaky float is more common then I thought. It could also be a bad needle or possibly dirt. I vote for the float due to the sudden issues.

Same thing happened to me, and it was the little diaphram that's in there (it was all cracked). About $2 and 10 min, back on the road... and then 2 weeks later other carb problems developed and it needed a full rebuild
