Dana 44 locked?

    ether7 CJ8 and CJ5

    I have a 1974 Cj5 with dana 44s front and rear. The rear seems to be locked all the time! I'm not sure what would cause this.This is the first 44 I've owned so I'm not sure what kind of diffenential this is. Is this a limited slip type diferential? Any help would be appreciated.

    It's tough to tell. The front rear is not stock, so something after market could have been done to the rear. It could be welded. pop off the diff cover and take a look inside. I am guessing that you already jacked it up and both side spin the same direction when you rotate a tire.

    It might have a spool in the rear also.

    I'd say the PO has installed a locker and 44 in front. Stock was a 44 rear, and 30 front. Both open ..
