Military Tires/Willy's rims

I have a question concerning my wheel setup that I coudln't find using the search tool.

I currently have Willy's rims and 7.00x16 NDCC military tires; I also have the appropriate (I think) tubes and flaps to go with the setup. I've been trying to get these mounted and balanced however the two shops I've brought them to are having lots of trouble with them. Apparently there is somewhat of an alignment issue with the stems, and also apparently everytime they try to inflate the tube, the stem wants to retract back into the wheel. Bob Sumerel here in Cincinnati did one wheel and called to say they had such a hard time they are going to charge me by the hour for the remaining three wheels- ($72/hr- I said no thanks). Is there something I am missing here. The gentleman at Universal Tire assures me that I have the correct offest hole flaps and the correct tubes and insists that the shop isn't familiar with the installation process. Is there a trick to this? Any help is appreciated-

    Thanks,

    Fred S

Who is Willy and does he know you have his rims? :)

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question.

    Here's what I know.
Take them to a shop that deals with truck tires (don't let them sell you new tubes though.... You'll get huge valve stems!)
And ask them to mount them. That's what usually works for me. Good luck

Summeral in Cincinnati sucks, blue ash to be specific. I had some tires mounted there on several occasions and everytime they complain about how the tires don't fit properly. The last time they charged me $130 to mount and balance 4 tires. There are a few places to go, surprisingly pepboys is cheap and they will do whatever you want. I had a hard time getting someone mount tires with equal tire balancer and pep boys did it while I watched to make sure they didn't open the bag.

I went to a few truck places to get tires mounted, some said their equipment only handled larger 19-22 inch rims, so call ahead.

you get the tubes and put some air so they get round and put them in the tires and mount then inflate and the stem won't pull in. if put too much air they won't fit in tire ,a little will do

We used to use a flat nut that fit the core stem and run it down to the bottom. It would hold the stem in place so we could fill the tube, then spin the nut off and put the stem cap on.

Also had some tubes that were stemmed like motorcycle tubes. Had a nut that was there permanently to hold the stem in one place.

I can't help but agree with the Sumerel comments- although they have treated me well in the past, they surely don't have a clue with anything that is "not normal." After about 2 months of hell with both Mo's Marathon in Blue Ash and Sumerel in Hyde Park, I found Performance Off Road (POR4x4) in Alexandria KY, and they got the job done in 1 day- go figure- pays off to bring your stuff to the right people . . .

You don't have the 2 piece combat rims of the WW2 era do you; also the flaps need to have the off-set hole for the tube. I never used them with the one piece wheels.:)
