    Hi all

I did drain the oil in the tranny. Along with the usual (I guess) small metal parts made by myself grinding teeth when I shift in 3rd, I found this part. This is a 1/4 inch grid paper.

What is it ? And more importantly, can I go along without ?

Is it magnetic? Could it be a magnet from the back of a drain plug?

Its too thick and too short to be a needle bearing. (#71 on the diagram)
I hate to say it but it looks like a roller from either the Input or output bearing (#12 or #36).

Pin that is in the shifter cover, the lever pivets on it should be 2 of them .

There is a noise when the tranny is not under load. Anybody knows what the ``#25 pin`` is used for ?

Judging by it's location, it aligns the tailshaft, so I'd say that's not it. It could be the shifter alignment pin, although it does look a little big. My T-18 only has one of them and it's a bit smaller than what's in your picture. The shifter pins fall out pretty easily when the shifter is removed. They're also easy to check. Remove the tranny cover and unscrew the shift lever retainer. The pin(s) are held into the shift tower by the retainer and the groove on the ball on the shift lever.

When pieces like that come out with the drain oil, I sure wouldn't recommend driving it until you can definitively determine what it is.

I thought they are caged ball bearings; mine were.

Mine were too. But when I rebuilt the tranny the replacements were a standard bearing.

My T18 only had one. It sure look like that's what it is to me. Plus the fact that they are easily lost into the case if you are not careful pulling or re-installing the shifter.
