The PO of my 72 CJ-5 had put on about a one inch body lift kit on the jeep, and from what I have read that body lifts just aren't the way to go, I was just wondering is there someway to knock the lifts out with the body still on the frame or am I going to have to take the body off, hopefully not the latter. Right now I know its wreaking havoc on my clutch linkage it just doesn't even sit right and handling on the highway is terrible which I heard can also be caused by body lifts, any suggestions? I can get pics of them if needed. Thanks in advance.

You don't have to remove the body.. just loosen all of the mounting bolts, and one at a time, take each one out and remove the spacer. You might have to jack up the body near the bolt that you are removing to take the pressure off of the spacer. As long as you have them out, you might want to think about replacing them with stainless so they won't rust in the future. ...

Yeah, I agree with blackmgtd, you should not have to remove the body. It sounds a bit cruddy, so I say take it out. However...if it's only a 1 inch lift, there is probably something else effecting your handling, so be prepared to look into that even after the body lift is removed.

:iagree:...I think the spacers I bought from 4Xhardware were 5/8"- 3/4" thick, and that was considered stock....wouldnt think 1" spacers would affect handling much

Well what it looks like is they put the stock body spacers on, which are black and then there is another orange polyurathae looking ones on top of those, it could be two inches, I never did measure it. Yah I already know that I have to replace the steering box which is one problem of my hadling lol.

If you have two sets of soft spacers that could be a problem. A true body lift uses hard (kevlar?) spacers along with the poly or rubber body mounts. I have about 2 1/2" of body lift and I don't have any of the symptoms you describe. But, my
2" pucks are rigid. The other 1/2" is from the poly mounts.
