worthy clutch release

I have snapped a few clutch release cables in the past 2 years and I am always adjusting them. I have purchased just straight up replacements so far. Is there a heavier gauge cable out there? What about that hydraulic slave cylinder from Novak? That one looks like it is only part of the kit.

The heads on the clutch pedal is where they tend to break on mine. Looking for a change on this one.

    Thanks

I put one of those on my 51 when I did the SM465 swap. It required some clearance work on the bolt holes on the BH, but that was an AA custom one. My home page has some pics of it with the stock BH.

Who makes a decent clutch cable release as the ones I bought failed too early?

IMOP - if you don't go hydro, your better off with the chain setups that AA has than the cable setup. I used to build my own, but ran out of the cable stock with the ball and bolt on them.

When I did my rebuild I used solid rods and heim joints.
    So far so good.

That is a great design. I like it, nice and solid.

Not going to with the standard cable again. I am going to rig something up temporarily until I get get something functional.

    Thanks for the help.

That is a great idea... These links are similar to "radius rods" used in racing and Quartermidgets Karts would have the perfect size..... maybe :)

I bought an AA chain adapter from a fellow member. I am not surprised I need to do some modifications to get it to fit. Apparently the pedal side of the chain is connected to a lever inside the frame rails which I don't have. Mine may have been cut off.

I checked it out this morning and it looks like that lever was cut off to make room for a master cylinder for the brakes. I will have to put that lever back on my clutch pedal.

Just as a side note, my clutch cable was attached to the pedal arm before the pivot. Is that what you guys have or are all your clutch releases attached to the lever I mentioned above.

I will post some pics of this later.

That is what I am talking about. Mine has been cut off and I will have to make up a new one instead of buying one fresh.

I had some serious "side slop" on mine and ended up replacing it anyway. I bought that piece seperately, not the whole kit. PN 642624 $15.25.

I will be diving in that tonight to see what the bottom line is. If it is too bad I will just replace it. Thanks for the part link.

The second photo shows the cut off tab better.

I removed the bell crank and welded a tab for the clutch release which had been cut off who knows when. I hooked up the Advance Adapter clutch release tonight and it seems to work great. I am able to pull the clutch pedal from below and it is very smooth, just like when I first installed a new clutch cable.

This leads me to a new theory as to why my cable(s) failed. The cable had rested right above the drivers muffler. I think over time the cable casing melted to the cable and after so long it just became a single unit. It was very difficult to pull the cable out of the casing which supports this theory.

When this happened the first time, I thought the throw out bearing had binded on the input shaft. I was thinking the same thing this time but not the case and I really didn't want to remove my transmission again for no reason.
