I built this over the weekend to remove the hard top on my wife's new to her TJ. Total Build cost was $130.00 sure beats $400.00 for a Lange Electric one!I figured you guys would want to see!

What winch did you use? I am making a setup for the 4runner hardtop, so far i only got the mounts on the ceiling done and the pully hanging from the ceiling, i have to now make a grappling hook thingy to grab the top. I was thinking about a hang winch, but electric look nice.

I priced the stuff to do a hand winch the 3 pullys,50' of 3/16 cable, boat winch and side wall mount, eye bolts to hang the pullys ,lag screws ,and other nuts and bolts. It was only $10 more to buy the 880 pound electric hoist from Harbor Freight so why not just go electric. The hoist was $99 and the Unistrut and hardware was $33 from ECK electric supply. The nice thing about the Unistrut is that it has slotted holes so you can balance the top perfect.I took the top off Sunday and it worked perfect, left it hanging from the garage ceiling while we were gone. When we got home I just backed the Jeep under the top and lowered it back down.I really like it so far,I plan to make another bracket so I can take the camper shell off my truck by myself. If you need any specs let me know.
