i just received an oil bath air cleaner from a member here.
in the top of it there is a mouse nest.
i pulled all i could out then shop vacuumed it.
but i can see small stuff in there.
should i flush it out upside down with kerosene to try and remove everything?
has anybody ever done this before?R)

I would think so. Then use new oil. I haven't messed with one of them in years.

I've used gasoline, kerosene...to wash out the mesh on old, dirty oil bath air cleaners, but the best way I've found is to flush it with some "Gunk" type engine degreaser (while it is dry) then rinse it out thoroughly several times with really hot water, shake it out, blow it out with compressed air and let it dry in the hot sun. That seems to work the best. Make sure it is completely dry before reinstalling (might have to dry it for a couple of days). Clean out the oil reservoir bottom really well and add new oil. Don't overfill it (just to the line)! Then all you'll have to do is change the oil periodically depending on conditions (dirt road operation, more frequently).

i taped a shop vac on the top hole and sucked everything possible out while hitting the bottom with air.
    then brake cleaner.
    then gas.
then kerosine hitting it with air everywhere possible between each bath.
after everything i was still getting an occaisional mouse turd.
so i shook it until my arms were tired and installed it.

I recently cleaned mine with engine degreaser, it made it fairly easy to clean the tar dirt that collects in the outter compartment where the air holes are sliding shop towels in ... and all the old oil with trapped dirt comes out of the baffling, then flushed it with same ... also makes a clean finish for painting

what a stinky place to build a home , they should have shopped around for a dash or under seat condo :)
