Well after much hemming and hawing after I bought my 61 cj 5 I've decided to go ahead and keep it. I had it on CL for a while but everyone wanted me to give it away so I've started the tear down figure wheeling season is about over anyways so now is a good a time as any. Unfortunately my wallet isn't as deep as I would like so this is apt to be lengthy with long periods of idleness. But I figure if I plug away long enough she'll be back ready to wheel and worth every day..week..month..year..(s).. I've had to wait.

So anyways I'll include a couple pics here and the photo bucket acct..( got a bit picture happy close to 200 pictures this weekend.

Any suggestions are welcome it's a 61 CJ 5 F134 t90/dana 18 with standard 27/44 difs I'll be using it to commute to work ( just over 1 mile 1 way ) but mostly a weekend toy riding up to Turkey bay ( about 70-90 mins away by slow back roads) and running the trails

    Thanks!

I know that I think I'm gonna cash out my 401 K and buy all PB blaster stock, think I may keep that company afloat single handedly over the next year getting all this apart !!!!

dohc281 It is what it is.

How hard was it to get your steering wheel off? There have been a lot of discussions about the difficulty of doing so.

1 nut and a rubber hammer on the back slid right off just had to walk it off by tapping it evenly so didn't bind the splines in it

I like these kinda' bulids, you can look back when it's done and know every inch of it and you got a jeep you'll be proud of .
Just getin' started on another '74 CJ-5 in about the same condition as your '61 and about the same color. good luck with the build.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I like the color. TO get stuff to break free, PB blaster is good. Better is to mix 50:50 acetone and ATF. Stuff is real inexpnesive and works better than what you can buy.

Get a little oiler from Harbor Freight. The ones your dad used to drain the oil cans when he changed the oil in the car.

I like those seats, simple yet functional. Who made them, where did you score them & how much did they set you back?
