I have a 225 with a t86 and want to mate it to a dana 20. The dana 20 originally had a t150 mated to it with a 26 tooth output gear. Can I steal the 26 tooth output gear from a t90 and put it on the t86 to replace the 29 tooth output gear?

I found lots of info on the t90 but not much for the t86 other than it has a 29 tooth output gear.

as long as it has the "texas" bolt pattern, it will fit. you will need the correct gear (26 or 29 tooth) for it to work. both trans use the 6spline output so the gears interchange.

It will bolt up and being both are 6 spline outputs no problem. One thing is the T-150 had a seal and the transfer case input gear has a machined surface for that seal. Without the seal oil will be exchanged from the transmisson to transfer case. The -86 did not. Shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you keep a close eye on the transmission fluid level.
