So driving home last night, nice and slow when,,CaaaaRaack, A Loud crunching crack out of the transmission area..( sm420/D18)..still drove but with a distinct unnatural cluck. Then the whole thing locked up, in the middle of the street (wouldn't even roll in neutral). Shifted everything in out and down and luckily it would go backwards..Backed out of the road. tried to go forward and it worked and i was able to make the 3 blocks home. Looks like I have a nice Christmas project. I'm guessing its transfer case but we will see. This happen to any of yall??

    Wow!
    Locked up?

I took all the teeth off the low range gear and still make it home.

Broken teeth or roller bearings jamming the gears.

The intermediate shaft was worn horribly in my t-case and the same thing happened as you described. Luckily I too was only a few blocks from home.
