...with the engine still in the Jeep? Is there enough clearance to drop the stock pan, and do the work?

There should be enough clearance to drop the pan, I removed the one on my '80 cj7 to change the rear main seal a couple times in a row (what a pain) if I remember right a couple bolts are hard to get to because of the engine mounts but with some patience and a swivel for your socket set you should be able to get to them.

You will have to lift the pass side motor mount but other then that it there are no other issues that I remember. I had mine out last year.

Forgot to mention as long as you are in there it would be wise to put in the Fel Pro one piece pan gasket.
