I have been chasing down all the wiring on a 79 cj5. I have it all narrowed down, but the turn signals dont blink. The lights work. Could it be the turn signal switch or can it be the electrical flasher, or something else.

If the lights light up but just don't blink I'd suspect the flasher. If it were the switch most likely the lights wouldn't light up.

I would check for power at the switch. when the ignition is in the on position one terminal should be hot when the blinker is on. if it is then the flasher probably is bad if its not hot then the you need to to follow that wire for a break or popped fuse.

your flasher should look like this

I'd check the turn signal switch plug on the column too. Just had a problem with mine. All my turn signals worked but the front right and the indicator in the dash. Pulled the plugs apart and found nasty terminals. Cleaned them up and voilaaa. I think the power wire from the flasher into that harness is red with a white tracer. Hope it helps.

I took the flasher out and tested it for power, and there was none. I cant spot any immediate breaks. Also noteworthy, the hazard lights work great and flash like they are suppose to. Is thsi more of an indication of turn switch signal? Do I need a special tool to get to the turn signal switch after the steering wheel is off?

I don't know if this is tied in but all my wiring works, but when i hook up my windshield wiper switch half my instrument panel goes dead.
