Looking for pics of how you mounted your Warn upright (Bellview/8200/8274) style winch to an early CJ. Have the stock bumper and would like to keep it. TIA.

I modded my bumper to lower the winch height
took the bumper off and added 4" to the bottom, then welded a plate solid on the back

bolted back up after priming for paint

with this setup you can see how much lower the winch sits in relation to the grill, did this to try and allow the most air flow possible for cooling

    hope this helps.....Jim

although my front bumper isn't stock, I would imagine that this mount would work on it. It is this wicked big piece of angle iron and it bolts on.

I weld a 1/4" plate to the back of the stock bumper.

Thanks guys:beer: Joe and Scott, did you guys run any horizontal plate, or is the winch just attached at the front face? I like the dropped versions better as far as looks and less rad blockage, although Nate's is quick and easy. If I'm still plowing with it next year, I need to make it easily removable also, but not so easy it grows legs on me IYKWIM.

Just a couple of notes: For the 8274 you need to make sure the mounting is absolutely flat as the mounting plate is what holds the drum end on-just a bushing in there running on the end of the drum spool-nothing but the drum end mounting holding it on there. On the Belleview/early Warn, it is not so critical as the winch has a shaft through the drum which holds the alignment a bit better.

My plate started the same as Joe's (stock Warn mounting plate), just cut the middle out of it to both lighten and decrease air flow obstruction. For years I had a horizontal 6x1/4" plate between the frame rails that was stitch welded to the bumper and frame but I removed it in the last remodel and just used 1/4" to box the back side of the bumper. It appears plenty strong as I have maxed out the 8k winch at least once since then and nothing distorted.

And Nate: maybe you should poke some big holes in that. Almost certainly contributing to your cooling problem.

Yep, I'm definately going to sink my Bellview down like those. Way better set up that having it sit on top of the frame rails. Good pics.

Only thing I did was weld a 1/4" plate to the back side of the bumper, nothing else.[IMG][/IMG]

No horizontal plates were added its just a 3/8 plate that make up the mount. The frame horns are boxed in to add to strength to the front end.
