Update time again. Got to spend some time on the jeep this weekend. Got the gas tank finnished, the rear caliper brackets turned up and I took my wheels off my mates jeep. Will take the gas tank in to be checked for leaks before fitting it. The guy repairing the seat said I should have it back in 3 weeks, then new windshield and its about done. Never drove a cj5 before, could be interesting.

Well the gas tank wasn't ready so I used a jerry can for a tank then fitted the seat frame. Put some plywood on the frame to sit on then drove it out of the shed. After sweeping out the shed and taking a few pics I just had to take a spin up the road. It went good except the driver, kept forgetting it was a crash box and I was grinding 1st when pulling up. Must be about 20 years since I last drove a crash box.

Pic time again. Got the seats back today, got them done in canvas so it doesn't matter when thay get wet. Fitted the gas tank and some rubber flares. Just waiting on windshield rubber and gearshift boot to turn up. Hope to have it on the road in the next two weeks.

Got to go for a bit of a drive, the guy who is supplying and fitting the windshield wasn't keen on driving 2 hours to the shed to fit it so I drove the jeep to work. It's about 45 miles to work and cruising at 55mph on the highway on a cold morning with no windshield is not something I could recomend. I'm happy with the way the jeep drove, thought it would wonder all over the place after reading on here about the caster wedges needed after fitting a dana 30 in the front. I'm running 5.38 diffs so was very glad I fitted the overdrive. While I have it at work I will give everything the once over and check the front end alignment. When the windshield seal and shift lever boot arrived the windshield seal was wrong so had to wait for the correct one to turn up. Now just waiting on windshield to be fitted then it can be inspected for registration.

Hey, could you get a pic of your spare tire mount where it attaches to the bumper? ? And does your tailgate still open or is it bolted/welded shut?
    Thanks!!

Hay Waynaferd, The only part that mounts to the bumper is the catch. The hinges are bolted to the body and there is steel plates on the inside. Tailgate still opens, just. The tire hits on the tub and there is just enough to lower the tailgate or remove it. Would not have thought the body would be strong enough but it seems ok.

It has taken a while but the jeep is back on the road. Got it registered friday and drove it around all weekend. There is afew little things that need sorting out but nothing major. Next weekend the classic not plastic jeep event is on so I'm busy getting things ready to go. Have had a fair bit of rain round here in the last two weeks so want to get a bikini top made up. As there is nothing to fix the rear of the top to I made up a rollbar. Should have it fitted tomorrow so a guy I know can make up the top.
