Sandblasting cost?

Hey guys, I found a business that said they would sandblast the frame of my Jeep for $75/hour. Does that sound reasonable? I know prices for similar products or services vary depending on where you are in the country but I just don't want to be taken. I'd have to bring the frame to them as well.

Last night my dad told me he used to have a guy who would both sandblast and paint a scraper (earthmoving machinery) for $1500...

 

Sounds very reasonable. Shouldn't take much longer than that.

 

Mike if the guy is really honest thats not a bad price, it should take about 1 1/2-2 hours max to do it right, the problem is some of hese guys do the well it only took 45 minutes so they charge you for 2 hours anyway because I can't make any money at it if it only takes 45 minutes.

 

Mike , if you have the room to do it, I bought a siphon sand blaster for $12 and 100 lbs. of sand for $5. I took my time and made sure it was done the way i wanted. I just tarped in a small area and all the sand was reusable. Just a thought.

 

This is exactly what I did. I went to a rental shop and bought a sand blasting hood for 29 bucks. It all depends on the mess. I live on a farm and the mess is not an issue. Why pay somebody for something we can all do???

 

I was hoping it would set me back about $100. I have more than enough room and a compressor that can handle the job but I just really don't like sandblasting. Actually, I would do it but I know the dust is very hazardous and I'd like to stay away from that if at all possible...

 

It's $45.00 an hour here in north florida. I was wondering if this was a good deal untill i read this thread.

 

If your on a budget of $100.00 ...... a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder and some wire cups from Harbor fright can do almost as good. I have redone several jeeps using this method.

Plus you won't have the sand blowing in your underwear.
