Will try not to go into too much detail but I have been following a long road trying to run down a tapping noise.

It happens only at just off idle but sometimes it gets loud. It happens every 720 degrees.

Parts replace timing chain and lifters.

Parts ruled out with stethoscope Oil pump, distributor, and fuel pump.

Tapping is loudest between #3 and #5 cylinder on top of intake manifold.

How much oil is supposed to be getting to the top end. Its seems to me to be a little week. Rev the engine up with the covers off and it does not make a mess. One of my valve cover gaskets should be making a mess of my intake manifold but it is not.

Oil pressure never drops below 20 on my gauge and the tapping happens around 25 PSI.

If you think oil flow to the top end might be my problem, where does it usually get restricted?

There are small passages on the front that feed oil to the top end. I know mine will splash oil out if I rev it (did it the other day adjusting the valves for spring running), but I am @ 40 psi at idle.

Also check the oil passages in the rocker assembly to make sure you don't have a blockage in it.

Do you think removing the pump and one rocker assy off and blowing air the opposite direction will do any good?

It depends on how plugged it could be. I usually snake it if possible, but that means pulling the timing cover and such off.

3 years ago i had a tapping noise that sounded just like a bad lifter, it would go away when the motor warmed up most times. i did a compression check and found #5 low, pulled the head and found a burned exhaust valve.

I finally got around to this part of my project.

I removed the oil filter and blew air into the oil ports under the rocker assemblies. I got a whole bunch of little chunks out. I have some oil flow to the top of the heads now. Not exactly ready for the Rolex 24 at Daytona but good enough for now. I do not recomend this to anyone though. If I disloged a chunk that did not come out, where is it now?

The tapping is still there. When it breaks, I'll find it. I have so much more to do on this Kaiser that the taping is going to have to wait.

    Thanks for your help.

(I am kind of leaning towards burnt valve right now)

A broken valve spring or a REALLY bad valve guide will do the same thing.
