check out my 1970 cj5 i inherited from my dad about 3 years ago, when i got it, it was sitting for close to 10 years not running. i got the 225 running, rebuilt the tran. and x-case just finished fab of stainless steel seat brackets and custom installed some 3/8" thick rubber flooring. i plan on stripping the paint down to stainless and drive it around for a while and then maybe paint what you see in red in black.check out my photobucket link. some feedback would be cool.

I thought that was a stainless steel jeep - seen post about steering column - haven't seen one of those body's in 20+ years - good looking jeep - keep in family
one other note - I build a hot rod few years back and used column out of 68 Olds . no key on column

ya, i think the black will look the best. before i get there i am going to get new 2 1/2" lift springs, shocks, as well as new updated rims and tires BFG mud terrain. as far as the top, for know i am going to go with a black bikini top and soft half doors. living in san diego i should be good almost year around.

how much more weight does all that stainless add? it's basically bullet proof!

as per the chart i looked at stainless is 4% more in weight than steel. i am not sure how much a stock 1970 cj5 weight is but whatever it is its 4% more in weight, i thought it would be more.

the tub probably weighs around 400 lbs???. so 4% of 400 is 16lbs. i would take 16lbs over rust any day!

i looked up the weight of a stock 1970 cj5 and it weighs 2,273 lbs. add 4% to that and you get 2,364 lbs. so that means there is only an additional 91 lbs of weight, i can handle that. ya i will never have to worry about rust, that is for sure. it is amazing that the jeep sat in the rain and 116 deg. weather for over 10 years before my dad passed away and the worst thing that happen was the transmition filled up with water, the paint on the hood is a little cracked but i am going to take it down to stainless anyway. My brother got the house and i took the jeep, i think i am the one that made out the best.

Unless you have a SS frame and drivetrain your numbers won't work.
