See through bikini top??

I have a little project idea that I have been tossing around in my head. I have a solid black bikini top on my 60 but I really perfer to have no top on it from a sound level perspective however the black seats get way too hot in the summer without it. I'm considering making a new top out of awning material. It should block the sun but let air and sound move though it.

Has anyone tried this - thoughts about how will it will work. I'm looking for shade while still having the sound level of topless.

That is what I'm looking at doing. Glad to know it will work.

quadratec or 4wd hardware sells one... I can't remember what they call it but they claimed it didn't flap and makes a great sun shade. It looked exactly like all of the other bikini tops other than the material

    edit: Found it... VDP Koolbreez

Can we change this thread title?

I'm afraid Steve/Don X will click on this thread and be disappointed.

My wife made our jeep bikini top out of sun screen material from Home Depot. It works great. I highly recommend it. I also have one from Quadratec, it works just as well. (We made a homemade one because it covers more of the back seat).

so it looks like I need to be able to make for under $40 (plus shipping) Based on the pricing I did today, that should not be a problem and it will be a custom fit. I may be able to make 2 for about the same price as one because the screen material it the main cost and it will be plenty big.

sorry it the title disappointed you, I couldn't think of anything else to call it.

Bought the stuff this morning. It is going to be raining here all weekend so this maybe the project for the weekend. If it wasn't for the the HoneyDo list, I would be working on it today.

I have enough material to consider doing a full top (cover back seat) but then I would have to figure a way to make a back bar to mount in the original top mounts on the body. I think it would have to tie into the roll bar so it would not move back and forth. Thoughts? I'm thinking it would end up looking like a soft top with all the windows gone.

Could you make some old school bows to go in the holes in your tub corners?

Got the main fabric cut out but spent the rest of my "free" time this weekend replacing the seal on the venting windshield and rebuilding the vacuum wiper motor. I'm going to try to get the top sewed up tonight.

Got it done last night and did a little test drive today. It seemed to do as planned but a bit more shade might have been nice. However, more shade would result in less air flow and more noise trapping so I'm happy with the result. I'll get some better pictures tomorrow but this is what I ended up with.

Very nice, plan to do similar to mine but attach it to the front roll bar so the window can still pivot.
How did you hook it around the rear bar, don't see any straps?

There is a strap on both sides. They are just hidden by the angle of the photo.
