    Hi all,

I searched the forum for prior information but couldn't find anything on replacing my missing heater components on my 1959 CJ5. The core is on the driver's side firewall and a hamster wheel blower is just to the left of the steering column. I can tell some paper/fiber duct was attached and probably made it's way up to the window vents for defrost, and a wire cable dangles there that goes to the heater/defrost knob on the dash. But all that ductwork is long gone.

Can anyone direct me to pics and/or a source for these missing parts?

    Regards
    -Dave

I have a 59 CJ5 with factory heat. The cardboard abortion is the original. Although their website is down at the moment I believe Walcks is where I purchased the plenum, defroster, and duct from. They are flimsy plastic, but the original wasn't too robust to begin with. A wise man might upgrade their blower motor as the original is pretty anemic. I live in Mesa, AZ (Phoenix) so heat is a low priority item for me.

I know that Willys works in Tucson has the proper heater cable knob set that attaches to the bottom of the dash. The Bowden cable with the switch that controls the fan motor will be shot, I went through all of them that they had and none worked even with canabilazation of several sets. But one can replace the Bowden cables to operate the mechanical Temp control, Air Control, & Defrost knobs and just deal with a toggle switch on the dash.

I know that Quadratec has a plastic part that fits in that tight spot of the defroster, going to purchase on my next order of my wishlist.. Best of luck!

When I originally rebuilt my '57 I couldn't find anything regarding the original cardboard ducts. I built a simple duct out of a ~1ft piece of pvc gutter tubing with a wooden flapper to divert between the floor and defroster. It had white flexible dryer tubing leading to the defroster. While not even close to factory, it was very simple and had an excellent flow.

I have the complete heater and the cardboard duct around here somewhere I took off my 66. Let me know if you need it. In Arizona we enjoy the cold winters without no stinkin heaters....

you can buy a plastic defrost replacement for the original paper one.
i put one in last year and it was easy.
you could try walcks or one of those places.
i ended up throwing the original heater stuff away and went with a modern 28,000 btu model
