Does anyone know if it makes a difference on the wiper vacuum motors if the windshield is a vented or unvented .... I need a 1965 CJ5 motor ... will a 1973 motor work??? Not sure that is the model and if they even put vacuum on 73's.

The motors are the same but for the vented the arms are a bit shorter, I found a NOS set on EBay, p/n 689795, from seller "eeffahc"

A '73 motor will not work as those are for the bottom mounted linkage style wipers used '68-'75.

Plus the ones on the vented seem a little more heavy duty. i believe it has an on/off lever on the actual motor(I have to look) with that lever being metal and a little ball on the end of that. I was fortunate enough to have found A vented w/s with the original motor, manual pass wiper AND rear view mirror. If I don't sell my jeep, I will get it blasted, primered, and painted

If you check your parts list the vented windshield offered as an option thru the end of Kaiser Jeep's rein used the earlier CJ5 vacuum wiper system. The right side could use either the cheaper hand operated mechanism or the standard CJ5 right side vacuum motor. My 1960 w/vented windshield came with two early CJ5 style vacuum motors.

That sounds like a military wiper motor, the parts manaual says the civvy fixed & venting frames use the same motor.

I hate to say this but, after reading this thread, I'm not sure I've ever seen a vented windshield. How about a pic or two?

Yeah they're not very common. Someone on this board has one up for sale. Look in the cj5 classifieds. I think he wanted 750 plus shipping, or something like that...if you're interested

Ohhhh. Duh! My mind was on the defrost slots on the interior of the windshield frame. Brainfart. Okay. All better. Move along, folks. Don't mind the dope with cat picture. That's it. Move along now. Keep going. Off we go then......................... But I can still say that I haven't actually ever seen one in person.

    Howard,

How did you end up with the M38A1 battery box cowl on your CJ5?
