I wouldn't use bolts on the kingpins . I use studs only I have had the bolts stirp out and Yes I used A torque wrench.

This sounds like A problem I had on My 1948 CJ2A Many Years Ago . Turned out to be the AMP meter . Replaced it and rewired it no more problem ?

Doug did You use the bracket from 1972-1975 or 1976-1985 ?
I have used that bell crank sense the 1960's without any kind of problem. Have one on my CJ3B now.
1st Gear Offroad makes A bell crank with Timken roller Bearings for the 7/8 " shaft. I have one on My CJ3B it's great .
Looks like it has A Hudson Steering.
Your PTO shaft looks like it could use A support bearing . I've seen the shafts buckle when they wipe like that.
